It was never really in doubt.
Chile completely dominated Mexico in a 7-0 victory in the quarterfinal game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara Saturday.
Chile scored a quick goal in the first half and a late goal later in the half.
The second half got even worse for El Tri, with Chile assaulting the defense over and over. Chile seemed to almost score at will against the helpless Guillermo Ochoa, who had almost no support from his defenders.
Chile ended up scoring four more goals in the second half, and they could have score more. On offense, Mexico managed just a couple real chances against goalkeeper Omar Bravo.
With the win, Chile will play Colombia in the semifinal. The other semifinal will feature Team USA vs. Argentina.
The loss ended Mexico’s 22 game unbeaten streak. El Tri will hope for better luck in the Rio Olympics, where the under-23 side is the defending gold medal winner.
