Mexico will play Germany, the defending World Cup and Confederations Cup champion, in its first match of the 2018 World Cup next summer.
El Tri wound up in one of the toughest groups in the tournament following Friday’s selection show. The CONCACAF champs also drew Sweden and South Korea in Group F. Mexico lost 4-1 to Germany in last summer’s Confederation Cup.

Mexico, currently No. 16 in the world FIFA rankings, will play Germany, currently the No. 1 ranked team, on June 17 in Moscow. Mexico will face Sweden, No. 18 in the world ranking, on June 23, and South Korea, No. 59, on June 27.
If Mexico makes it out of group play in second place, which could be the most optimistic outcome, it would likely play Brazil, the No. 2 ranked team, in the elimination round.
