Mexico’s Guardado back for Venezuela match

FERMIN LEAL, FUTBOL DAILY

Andres Guardado will return to the starting line-up for El Tri Monday night following his one-game suspension for two yellow cards he picked up against Uruguay.

Guardado has been Mexico’s most consistent player in midfield, with the team playing noticeably more succinct when he’s on the field.

Against Jamaica last Saturday, Mexico struggled at times in ball possession, and several giveaways in the midfield led to dangerous Jamaican attacks.

The Venezuela game will decide who wins Group C. The winner will likely avoid facing red-hot Argentina in the quarterfinals. Mexico need a win or a tie to clinch the group, while Venezuela need a win outright.
