L.A. Galaxy’s Giovani Dos Santos will not attend any of the Copa America matches featuring his native Mexico or any other team for that matter.
Dos Santos turned down a spot on El Tri’s 23-man roster for the tournament, saying he preferred to focus on his Galaxy commitment instead.
In an interview with ESPN, Dos Santos said “I am going to stay here [in Los Angeles] and rest. I think I have played enough minutes this month, after a long time without playing, so my body is asking for rest and recharge. I want to return [from the break] at 100 percent.”
His brother Jonathan Dos Santos was left off Mexico’s team for Copa America with coach Ricardo Osorio saying the younger Dos Santos needed time to recover from injuries that left him out of his club team Villarreal’s squad for large portions of last season.
