Chile repeat as Copa America champions

Leo Messi missed his shot in the penalty shoot-out and Chile capitalized to win the Copa America for a second straight year.

The game was almost a repeat of last year’s final that saw Argentina and Chile battle to a scoreless and needed penalty kicks to decide the championship.

Chile made four of its five penalty kicks, with Arturo Vidal missing the opening shot, while Argentina only made three penalties. The crushing miss for Messi came when  he sailed his shot above the cross bar.

The loss means Argentina has still not won a major tournament since the 1993 Copa America.

The match saw a player from each team sent off with a red card during regulation, leaving both Chile and Argentina to play most of the game at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey with 10 players each.
